I have a love affair with grasscloth wallpaper. Like a true, deep, abiding love. Two years ago, I made my dreams of having grasscloth wallpaper in my own home, a reality, when I backed my office bookcase with a gorgeous aqua grasscloth wallpaper. It was, and still is, glorious. That little addition to my office only fueled my fire for grasscloth, and since then, I have been consumed with the idea of wrapping all 4 walls of my master bedroom in the perfect texture and beauty of grasscloth wallpaper. It took many months of convincing my husband, but he finally conceded to let me take my dream and make it a reality. In true designer fashion, it wasn’t enough to simply change the walls. I decided that a with the new wallpaper a bit more of a bedroom refresh was in order. By switching out some furniture pieces, like a new bed, and adding new lighting, window coverings, bedding and gorgeous art, I was able to give my bedroom a little update and create a space that is truly reflective of me at this juncture of my design life.
As I mentioned, the grasscloth wallpaper was the jumping off point for the design of the room. After looking at numerous wallpaper samples, I settled on Haruki Sisal in Silver from Schumacher. The photos do not do the beauty of this wall covering justice. The subtle texture and metallic sheen create an envelope of warmth of elegance.
White bedding is always a winner. I selected a Belgian Linen duvet cover and shams from Malouf and paired them with a white coverlet and griege herringbone bed blanket.
A new rug was also in order. I chose a rug with a neutral ivory background washed gray/green pattern. The fiber content of this rug gives it that washed vintage look, but also has a great sheen, which gives it a luxe feeling. It’s so pretty in person!
New custom pillows made by my fabricator, with gorgeous new fabrics from Robert Allen, finish off the white bedding. This moss green color might be my new favorite. PS – Moss is the new Sage. 🙂
