Farm Gal Designs: Family Room Updates

Well, the intent of this post was to link up with a blog party a week ago, but seeing as how I can barely keep us in clean clothes and dishes these days, I’m just going to post it now by myself.

I haven’t really posted any before or afters of our house on here.  We bought our house from a family member, and that can be a sensitive situation when you start completely redoing things.  But it’s been almost two years since we got the keys, and I want to begin showing some of our progress.  Pretty much none of the rooms are completely finished yet, but we’ve made significant progress on

Christian Decorating Mom | Christian mom redecorating teen room, bathroom , kitchen & family room with Christian house decor

Redecorating our guest / girl’s bathroom is so much fun!  Our Christian shower curtain and matching bath mat are here and we all absolutely love it!  It has turned our rather boring bathroom; with its brown walls and drab look, into one of color, fun and God’s love.  Here are some before and after pictures for you.

Of course I couldn’t stop there!  I am now tackling the fun task of looking for Christian wall décor and other Christian nick knacks to complete the look.  The first thing I did was to get a standing wall unit to place above the toilet.  This allows for space for towels and still have room for some fun stuff!

I ran across this beautiful blue angel with a butterfly on her hand , with the saying “count you blessings ” above her.  It is the perfect Christian wall décor

Dear Lillie: January Family Room

January is always a bit of a strange month when it comes to decorating. Once all of the Christmas decor is put away it always feels a little bit barren but it’s a little too soon to add any spring or summer touches. I left our cozy knit and fur pillows and throws as well as our pom pom wreath for now seeing how they are nice additions in this winter weather, and then we added in some more cheerful touches to our mantel using some fresh seeded eucalyptus bouquets and some tulips from Trader Joe’s to help make it feel a little less gloomy even though it’s still quite cold and dreary outside.

You can see more photos and get a source list for the kitchen in this post here.

Decorating a Kid’s Room | Macro Family

The most important thing to consider when decorating a child’s room is to make the child comfortable. You want to surround them with fun, playful items. The way this room is designed is going to have an effect on the psyche of the child, so allow room for imagination and freedom.
It may be helpful to let the child help you decorate. Pick out the colors, or the wallpaper together. One trick is to purchase inexpensive plain white wall paper, then when it is up, let the child paint a mural of their choice on it. You can do this once a year and continue to reinvent the room over and over again.
Big boxes and lots of shelves will help the child keep the room clean. Make labels for all of the containers with big bright words, that will help remind the child what that container is for.

Kitchen and Family Room Reno Ideas

Rather than relocate, these clients decided to renovate. Their renovation included removal of walls and total demolition of their current space. The kitchen is now where their small keeping room once was, and the hood vent is now on the wall where the fireplace used to be! The wall was removed between the formal living room and the kitchen to create one open, beautiful living area.

The complete renovation also included changing the use of the space from a formal living room to a casual family room, which opens to the newly renovated kitchen. The client wanted to keep everything light and airy. The furnishings were carefully selected to be more sophisticated but not sacrificing comfort. The use of shiplapand reclaimed wood beams add warmth to this room.

See more information about this kitchen and family room reno. Outrageous Interiors is sharing all of the sources for these spaces!

  • How to create a comfortable family living room that works for everyone

For a peaceful home, it’s essential to design a family living room works for all. Consider what changes you could make to the style, layout and practicality of your living room to ensure that everyone in the family finds this room an inviting space to relax in.

The living room is the most sociable room in the house, so make sure it provides enough seating for the whole family, plus a few guests. If you don’t have the space for extra chairs, an upholstered or leather pouffe will do the job and can be used as a footstool when not needed as a seat. If you’re looking to buy a new armchair, check whether you have room to upgrade to a loveseat that can seat
