Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Pedrali has launched the Guinea outdoor chair, created by CMP Design Studio, which combines tubular coloured aluminium with warm teak elements.
Informed by tropical climates, the Guinea chair has a powder-coated aluminium frame with teak armrests – a detail that adds tactility while protecting the body from extremes of hot or cold.
The sparse use of teak also reflects CMP Design’s desire to both celebrate and preserve a durable tropical wood.
The chair is available in two versions with different backrests. A stackable version features textilene — the weatherproof mesh fabric made of PVC-coated woven polyester yarn — to give it a construction that recalls the classic director’s chair, and the other has aluminium slats that can be optionally upholstered.
Pedrali describes the Guinea chair as “large and embracing” but with a visual lightness that comes from the restrained use of material.
“Thanks to its aluminium construction, Guinea is perfect in the open air, along the seafront, by the pool, or even on the deck of a ship — places where you can enjoy beautiful landscapes and a long, relaxed time,” said CMP Design.
