Hyundai is set to launch the new Exter micro-SUV in India on July 10, 2023.
While we have seen multiple images of the front of the upcoming Hyundai Exter, the Korean carmaker had not shown us the rear of the micro-SUV. That has finally been remedied as Hyundai has put out an official image showcasing the rear styling of the Exter, ahead of the micro-SUV’s launch on July 10. Bookings for the Exter are already officially open, with the token amount set at Rs 11,000. We have previously seen spyshots of the Korea-spec Exter that gave us a good idea of what the model for India would look like.
The attractive design philosophy of the #HyundaiEXTER continues at the rear too. This SUV’s bold looks along with a prominent rear skid plate will surely make heads turn.

From the new image, we can see the Exter features a thick C-pillar with an interesting honeycomb texture that is finished in black. The same honeycomb texture can also be seen on the strip between the two taillight units, and speaking of the taillights, we can see that they have an ‘H’ shaped LED light element that mimics the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) upfront. Apart from this, the tailgate is fairly upright and features an integrated roof spoiler that gives it a sportier look. The rear bumper features a large silver faux skid that is surrounded by plenty of plastic cladding, all done in a bid to give the SUV a more rugged appearance.
Powering the new Exter will be the same engine options seen currently in the Grand i10 Nios, meaning it will get Hyundai’s 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83 hp and 114 Nm in the Nios. There will also be a factory-fitted CNG variant of the same 1.2-litre engine offered with the Exter that should produce a similar output to the Nios CNG (69 hp and 95 Nm). As standard, the Exter will come with a five-speed manual gearbox, with the higher trims of the petrol engine variants getting the choice of a five-speed AMT automatic gearbox as well.
The Exter will be offered in eight trim levels — EX, EX(O), S, S(O), SX, SX DT, SX(O), SX(O) Connect — and will get 26 safety features as standard, including 6 airbags (the first model in the segment to do so), ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Assist Control. Higher trim levels will get up to 40 safety features, including a dashcam with dual camera (also first in segment) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
At launch, the Hyundai Exter will compete with the likes of the Tata Punch (the only other micro-SUV in India), Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Fronx, and the lower variants of the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
