AN interior designer has revealed that there are three mistakes that people often make in their homes that make their space look ugly.

Bilal Rehman, a luxury interior designer explained that having too many patterns in your home is a massive error for one and so if you want your space to look and feel expensive, you’ll need to listen up.

Bilal took to TikTok to share his tips, as he posted his clip with the caption ‘Three interior design trends to avoid.’

He said: “Three interior design trends you would never catch me doing.

“First things first – let’s talk about patterns.

“Do not overuse patterns in your space, it’s just going to look tacky.

“Pattern is not meant to be everywhere in the design, just in statement pieces.

“Everything else around it needs to be very cohesive and compliment the pattern, not fight with it.”

Not only is Bilal not a fan of too many patterns, but he also shared his advice on painting your trims.

He added: “The next thing that we’re going to talk about is trim and mouldings.

“Do not paint your trim and moulding white if your walls are not white.

“Gone are the days where the trim and mouldings needed to be a different colour.

“Instead, paint everything in the same colour – walls, trims, doors, windows, everything.

“It’s going to create a monochromatic, very stylish and very elevated look.”

Finally, the interior whizz shared his thoughts on artwork.

Bilal explained: “Alright, now number three – mass produced artwork.

“No mass produced artwork – the point of art is for it to be special and for it to create a statement in your space.

“If you and all your neighbours and everybody else in the world has the same mass produced artwork that you found in a bin at Home Goods, guess what, it’s not art, it’s just a copy and paste.

“So ditch that s**t and go find some cool art.

“I hope these tips help to elevate your space.

“This has been your favourite luxury interior designer.”

At the time of writing, Bilal’s clip had quickly amassed 33,400 views in just one day.

It had 3,175 likes, 44 comments, 201 saves and 14 shares.

Many agreed with Bilal’s claim about artwork and were eager to express this in the comments.

One person said: “One thing I’ve always and always will agree with is never hang mass produced art in my home.”

Another added: “I agree with the mass produced art work. I try to get work from independent artists.”

A third shared: “There are a plethora of art fairs held around the country. There’s no excuse to buy c**p ‘art’.”

Meanwhile, someone else noted: “As if we can all afford cool a** art.”

To this, Bilal explained: “Supporting local artists doesn’t have to be pricey! OR making something with family/friends will mean so much more than anything you could buy!”
